Winter has its own charm. But let’s face it, as much as we enjoy
winters, our skin doesn’t. We don’t realize how much moisture we lose every day due to this weather. The cold dry air outside and indoor heat zap the moisture
out of our skin. This often results in chapped, flaky, itchy skin and even
bleeding in the worst cases. Try out these five things that will make your skin
supple and glowy in harsh winter weather.
Nourish your body
If your gut is healthy, it will reflect on your face. Add lots of fruits and green vegetables in
your diet with an increased quantity of healthy fats. You can get healthy fat
from dry fruits such as walnuts and almonds. Keep yourself hydrated by having 7-8
glasses of water per day irrespective of the weather. We tend to eat more in
winters to keep our body warm and so adding more soups and salads to your
winter diet can help you cut those extra calories.
Room Prep
The better the air, the better the skin. Place a humidifier
in the room in which you spend the maximum time to add the moisture
to dry winter air. Make sure it is on low to moderate heat. Add a lot of indoor plants to remove toxins. Areca Palm releases a lot of moisture in the air and
so it acts as a natural humidifier while giving your space a tropical vibe.
Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise
Our skin gets attacked by free radicals which can cause dark
spots and premature lines. To fight that, we need an antioxidant layer to our
skin. So prep your skin with a Vitamin C serum first thing in the morning. Slather
on a generous layer of face cream (instead of lotion), preferably the one with hyaluronic
acid and ceramides. Ceramide creates a skin barrier that does not break down
by the winter chills and hyaluronic acid binds to water which helps to retain
moisture. Avoid creams with fragrances as it can cause itchiness.
Winter Bath
A hot water bath is something we crave for in winters as it
relaxes our muscles. But it rips out the natural oils from or body. Have a bath
with a moisturizing body wash like Dove and use lukewarm water. For the face, go in
for a sulfate-free, paraben-free face wash like Cetaphil. Finish off by slathering
on a light oil of your choice (organic coconut oil, sweet almond oil) over the rest of your body to
lock the moisture in the skin.
I hope it helps you. Happy Winters!
Love,
Tanya
