Fun Ways to have a Feminist Wedding

Hi, My name is Tanya and if you have stumbled upon this blog, it means like me you are a feminist too. We have been following the same old wedding traditions from times immemorial. Most of these traditions are outdated and patriarchal. But there is little we can do about it. As feminists, we have the liberty to make deliberate choices and have a wedding that reflects our values. After all, it's your wedding, you should make the rules.

So here are a few pro-feminist ways to make your wedding more interesting:

1. Have an Unconventional Entrance

We have been watching brides making a graceful entrance to 'Din Sagna Da' along with her bridesmaids. But going unconventional is the idea to make it trending on social media. Brides can surprise the guests by getting their own baraat, or by making a dancing entrance through a flash mob performance. And if the wedding budget has no limits, then even a helicopter entrance would be a good idea. In a recent wedding, The bride entered through a boat in a beach wedding setup.

2. Having a Bachelorette Party

Before you enter a new life, it is important that you take some time off with your girl squad and honor the good times that you spent together. Its a day to relax between the wedding planning madness. Go to a spa together, have a trip to Disneyland or spend the night dancing away with your girls at a club. Celebrate yourself and the life you have lived so far.

3. Equal roles in Wedding Planning

If you are striving for an equal marriage then its necessary that you and your partner share equal responsibility in wedding planning. Traditionally, the bride's family had to shoulder the majority of expenses but with the growing pomp and show of weddings, it is important that they split the bill. Both families should participate equally. Brides anyway have too much to stress about, from looking great to losing weight!

4. Wear What You Like

Feminism does not only mean having an equal place of men and women but also having freedom of choice. If you don't want to wear red customary to Indian tradition, then don't. Jewelry designer Kaabia Grewal wore a white gown at her beach wedding. At her wedding reception, Deepika Padukone changed her red stilletoes to white sneakers to set the dance floor on fire. Comfort dressing is the new rage.

5. Customize Your Vows

The traditional vows might have wording related to reproduction and obedience that you're not comfortable with. Discuss with your sweetheart if you want to customize the vows or rewrite the vows completely. Spruce it up by adding your favorite memory of your partner and what is the most important promise you want to make.

6. Ms. or Mrs.

Your name doesn't necessarily have to imply that you are married. You can go in by Ms. or Mrs. whatever you like. Fashion and beauty influencer Diipa Khosla's wedding broke all stereotypes when her husband adopted her last name and now he is Oleg Buller Khosla and she is Deepa Khosla Buller. Not only that, Oleg touched Deepa's feet to show equal respect for her. They even went for a hashtag- 'The Bullslas' to denote the union of Khosla and Buller family.
